New Hog House

I have a new hog house for the garden this year. The old one had a resident most nights last year but we didn’t get any breeding or hibernating hogs. The new box has a lot more room inside so hopefully this will be better.

I have fitted an IR cam to the inside if the roof looking into the main sleeping area. Unlike last years box this camera does not have a fitted microphone, it has more IR LED’s than the last camera so I’m hoping this does deter the hogs from using the box. If the hogs take to the box I may fit a microphone at a later date.

Grey Wagtail

A new first time visitor to the garden, a Grey Wagtail.

Grey Wagtail

The first time I saw the bird was on one of the bird table feeds. It was a little difficult to indent the bird as it moved in and out of the cam view very quickly. Fortunately its been back few times now.
I was able to get some pictures of it with the 400mm lens from one of the upstairs windows.

YouTube Channel

I have created a ukgardenwildlife YouTube Channel and I’m in the process of moving all of the original videos over along with some new ones.
Originally I used Google videos but you can no longer upload to that service. So rather than keep embedding videos into ever growing web pages I decide to make a dedicated YouTube channel where all of the videos can be found in one place.
This also enables people to subscribe and comment on the videos…

So please feel free to subscribe to the channel and leave your comments..

Pond Cam Back On-line

Today I decided to put the Pond Cam back on line. As there are only 8 camera feeds I had to take one of the other feeds off-line to accommodate the Pond Cam. As the bird box has had no takers this year I have taken that off-line until next spring when hopefully it will gain some residents.

The Cam is a little misty at the moment, this normally happens when the Cam is first placed in the water. It should clear after a day or two.

ukgardenwildlife Forums

I have added a message board to the website. I get asked a lot of questions via email about the website, the techie side of things as-well as the wildlife that we have managed to attract to the garden. Generally the same questions are asked so I decided the best place for the Q&A would be a place where everyone could have access to the information.

So the ukgardenwildlife forums were created……………………………..

Please help get the forums off the ground by creating an account and give a little introduction about yourself..

Happy Posting..

Bird feeder Update

The feeder has been up for just over a week now. The Starlings took to straight away but it has taken a little time for the Tits to start using it.
Below are a couple of pictures of Blue and great Tits on the feeder. I will upload some video footage soon.

Pond Cam Update

The Pond cam has now totally de-misted and I have moved the cam to a small clearing in the pond. There are some very good daytime and night time pictures and footage from the cam.
Here are some of the pictures. I am uploading some video as I type, I will link to this from the videos page.

Fox Cam Problems

Yesterday whilst carrying out some maintenance on the cams and feeds the Fox cam became faulty. The wires literally fell out of the back of the cam.
Until I repair or can get a new Fox Cam I have lashed together and old IR cam and placed it in a less exposed area from the elements.
The view from the cam is at a higher angle and looks down on the feeding area.

I think this may be a little too high.. Any comments? Drop me a mail.

Pond Cam

The Pond can is now under test. Initially the lens cover has misted over due to the temperature difference between the inside electronics of the cam and the temperature of the water. It is slowly starting to demist, I’m hoping that over the next couple of days that this will disappear all together otherwise I will have to remove the cam and look into some ways of preventing the misting.
The cam is not in its final resting place yet. Once the cam has demisted I will clear an area in the pond and fix it in place.

Bird Box and Bird feeder Now Live

Two new feeds have now gone live..

I have installed a new bigger bird box and cam in readiness for the spring.

Bird Box

Last year the Tits showed an interest in the box but I think it was a little too small..

Also installed is a new addition, a Bird Feeder fitted with a cam.
