Additional Cameras

I now have the ability to add an extra 4 camera feeds to the website. Over the next few days I will fit the hardware to the PC and add some extra cameras.
The two additional cameras so far will be at a squirrel feeder and in a bird box.

There is a squirrel that walks long the garden fence every now and then, as soon as it gets wind of the food I’m hoping that it will stop by and have a regular snack.

Changes

Well a few changes here and there… I have up dated the website with the inclusion of a live streaming audio video feed on the links page. I have also added a video page; here you can see videos of the garden critters.

Now the sad news… The builders have started on the neighbour’s extension. This initially frightened away both of the Hogs that were staying in the boxes… Fortunately we now have one resident, not sure if it will stay for hibernation as the building work is very noisy during the day.

Just down the road there was a squashed hog… This coincided with the beginning of the building work… Hope this wasn’t one of the resident hogs.

The wood mice are now regular visitors to the feeding station; this has also created cat attention. So I have made a few modifications to the feeding area with just enough room for the hogs to enter… The wood mice should hopefully now be safe.

Critter Videos

I have posted some videos of the Hogs and Mouse on the internet…
You can see them HERE

Live Feed Errors

I have had some messages asking me why the feeds have been down. Well in a nutshell i have had a few problems with the pc that takes the video feed. It keeps crashing, so i am investigating the problem. I may have to do a rebuild of the machine.
I apologise to those that have missed the Hogs.

Relocation, Relocation

Yesterday I decided to re-site all of the cameras, feeding areas and hog box. The reason for this is that the hog box and the feed area had become an animal walkway to the garden. To this affect the hogs stopped staying in the box and start feeding less frequently.

On the first night of relocation the hogs were straight to the new feed area and the hog box had a tenant. The fox also visited although at this point the fox feed was just placed in the middle of the garden.

I have changed the design of the hog feeding area; this seems to have stopped the cats walking through and the fox eating the hog food. I’m sure the birds will still have a good go.

I will follow up soon with some pictures.

New Camera Locations

Ok I decided to have a move around with the cams yesterday. With the amount of rain we have been having lately everything has been getting soaked so I decided to place the cams in some of the drier areas of the garden.
The hog box is in secluded reasonably dry area so I decided to move the hog cam near to this.
The hogs seem to find it without a problem in-fact on the first night in the new area there was a lot of hog activity.
Again on the same night the fox showed up and ate the hog food. So tonight I have fixed the roving can just outside the hog feeding area and place a bowl of food there for the fox.

The hogs do not seem to be worried about the fox they just curl up, wait and carry on eating after the fox has gone. Hmmmm if only humans could live in such harmony.

The rain has been activating the cams leading to a lot of false captures so I have placed the cams in such a way that I’m hoping they won’t get activated by the rain so much.

Rain Rain Rain

Well its been constantly raining here for what seems weeks.. I have had to move the hog feeding area from its original position as it was getting flooded, the hogs don’t seem to mind.
The Hog Box still appears to be quite active..  no permanent resident yet.

The Fox still visits now and then, I have put some extra food (dog type) out for the Fox so that he doesn’t take the Hog food….  Expensive this wildlife malarkey… :-)

The birds have discovered the hog food and help themselves in the mornings making more of a mess than the hogs.
The magpies have taken to walking along the wall and peeking into the conservatory window at times jumping onto the window seal.

I have some extra cameras to replace the low quality IR cameras. These are bullet cameras without IR so I need to make some IR illuminators to enable their use at night.

Ok that’s it for now…  till next time.

Website

I have been working on the website today trying to get the streaming and playback links working correctly. It’s hard to do this when you can’t look at the feed from within your home network using an external IP address point back at yourself..  (if that makes sense).

Anyway finally got it working.

I have also been working on the graphics, drop shadows on the pictures and resizing of the logo trying to get the proportions right.

Just need to work on some more content for the site now…….
